How the hell is Jan cooking Spam so badly? Spam is not meant to be on-fire. Spam isn't that hard to cook. Spam can be cut thin or Spam can be cut thick. Spam can be cold or Spam can be hot. Spam can be cooked with many things or just more Spam. Spam is a delightful food. Ham may be tastier than Spam, but Spam is I think more versatile. Spam tastes like bacon when fried! I think Spam can do that, but regular ham cannot. Plus Spam comes with its own jelly! So that's a couple things Spam has over ham. Regardless, Spam and ham can co-exist as both are delicious meats. Even if Spam is more of a "meat by-product".

And that's all the spam I have about Spam.

Believe it or not, spam is actually real meat, blended together and cooked in the can. Not too bad, really.

Although I might agree with Wolf if Jan was cooking Prem. Prem is the Canadian knock-off of Spam...and has no way to be cooked right. I remember it from the Canadian National Jamboree in 1996 (I was with a troop in the American contingent).

Wait a sec...if Wolf imparts high velocity to this product, does it become SPLAM on impact?

Hehe, reminds me of a time when I had a relative stay once and I'd not got time to shop. One of the few things I had left was SPAM. So he cooked up some weird, foul smelling mixture of the stuff I had left, SPAM, soy sauce, peanut butter, rice and a few other things. It actually didn't taste too bad...if you ignored the aftertaste.

Since then, I always keep a can of SPAM, just in case. No more than one can of SPAM, that would be just be too much SPAM for me.

What people forget, that like Velveeta, SPAM was a product of WWII when most meats were rationed. It was also sent overseas to the U.S. GIs for their food rations. That may be where it picked up its bad rep.

If you're ever out near Austin Minnesota, be sure to visit the Spam Museum! It's really great! (And, yes, they DO have a recreation of the Monty Python skit as one of the exibits!)

Spam actually is just an abbreviation of Spiced Ham, and considering it has a history of being used to feed the Armed Forces, that it tastes wonderful, and makes (in my opinion) one of the best comfort foods, Spam Musubi, I have no clue where it got the bad reputation it has.

@Tekara, @steve: Spam is actually meat. Ham, to be precise. The ham is ground, spices are added, and the mixture is sealed in the can and cooked. It's not ham as you'd get it from a butcher...it's more like deli meat. Not too bad, really. But Prem (the Canadian attempt at Spam, and yes, I had it at a Canadian national Jamboree, I was part of the American contingent) is...um...like eating plastic.

And if Jan is making Spam reek...it's because he's overcooking it to death.
