Ah, I guess you're British, or at least former British empire. Here in 'Murica, smarties are like some kind of compacted powder candy, and most decidedly are NOT candy-coated cocoa solids.

@thecanidean: Same here in the U.S. However I don't think Wolf is holding a cocoa version of them. Probably packaged different in Hong Kong. Being Jan went to college in the U.S., and 9t9 takes place here, I would have to believe they are the sugar ones.

@LionkingCMSL, would that be me? :) Growing up, I wish I had been able to stop it.

Getting back to the comic, I love the progression of Wolf's mania through the panels and the clear look of patience wearing thin on Jan. Like many sequences of dialogue floods ended by a silent panel this made me laugh aloud.

Although... children shouldn't be left unsupervised in shopping trolleys. Wolf, definitely not! ;)

Thank you for NOT showing the horrors of childhood. The spray chez in a can, or the tube o cheese you had to untwist the cap, stab it in the middle, then squirt the goop out. OH man those two alone made things just so..so..shudder. I like the smarties comment as a canuck its fun smuggling a few packs down to a con to give to friends.

I looked it up: Smarties (coloured chocolate pills by Nestle) are distributed in many countries, but not in USA where the brand name is owned by the Smarties Candy Company making a different product, which is sold in Canada under the name "Rockies". Living in Europe I've grown up with Nestle Smarties and ... I was actually disappointed that the different colours don't taste any different from each other.

I think Wolf is less stunned by the fact that Jan got him in there than by the fact that he fits. Childhood obesity is getting WAY out of hand.

Having my avatar visible might have helped. WordPress took an inexcusably long time to issue my activation E-mail, and I'm still waiting to see the avatar image feed through to TigerNight's comics pages. At least it's visible on my profile page.

@LionkingCMSL: Yup. "Kangaar Foxfire" would have been identified as Michael Sauerpüss' player name in the virtual reality game of my webcomic if I'd been able to continue it. I've already been using the name on Comicfury for about a year.

Peter 'Wolf' Pan won't ever grow up!

There are international foods aisles in some of our local food store chains, and at least one offers Smarties as described. M&Ms 86ed red and blue coatings decades ago because of concerns over the metallic salts in the artificial coloring; I suspect Smarties did the same. Both are back now, but I'd sacrifice either to get the tan M&Ms back. If I could still eat 'em, that is.

This one is hilarious, I love it. Every now and then, I'll get food that I enjoyed as a kid, and it is is always good stuff. Though I think wolf was going a little too far with it. And now he is in time out... Just like a kid.

growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional. you still get punished for your behavior but you still get to have your fun till that happens :D

That look of subdued shock in panel 4... it's almost as if somebody had just run over his wind-up bunny. Say, whatever happened to that thing anyway? Did he finally manage to launch it into high orbit? Wait wait... Do I really wanna know? O_o

Ooh. Now Jan can push the cart from the front end and play Wolf-bumper carts. :D

Ya'know... If you change that string cheese color in panel 1 to dark purple, they would look just like beef jerky.
