When I was in an orchestra, we would cooperate with and play with them in a concert once a year. They outnumbered us ten-to-one, and they played at football games. Needless to say, we might as well have not even been there because you couldn't hear us at all.

No, it's not the drummers, they know better than to beat a dead horse. But Wolf had better orchestrate his (Bonaparte's) retreat, and go like a shot from Pachelbel's Canon. If he fiddles around, these guys just might string him up. Time to sound retreat !

uuh this might be a misinterpretation but the first panel makes it look more like wolf is... trying to stick his hand up the unicorn's butt, or like he's trying to find something on the inside to mess around with. (@Jan, if this comment is so bad you silence it i understand i'm something of a messed up person)

@cassius I'm pretty certain the southern exit isn't that far down on a unicorn :P

BTW, I want to hear more band/orchestra stories; open up the floodgates!

@Jan Depends on the gender, males have a liquid dispensing port 'round there! ;P As for stories, did you ever hear about the orchestra that wanted to play at the nightclub?

They wouldn't fit so they got band!

Why are the strings in the front hallway? There's no way the unicorn had enough momentum to fly through a door and squash him flat at a considerable distance. Did they get kicked out of their practice room? Was it due to the percussionists? Why didn't wolf fly as far? So many questions!

In other news, I was bullied back in school and had a tuba stuck on my head after being tied up in the storage room of the practice hall. No one found me till my music theory professor tried to sneak a lil extracurricular activity with an older student...it was an interesting day for everyone involved...I passed the music theory class I was in but decided that music just wasn't for me after that.

Ouch! I'm glad the horn's pointed in a safe direction!

One time at band practice I got a water bottle stuck in my saxophone. I almost always carry water to stay hydrated and combat acid reflux. Usually I would put the bottle in the bell of my tenor saxophone so I would have a hand free to open doors between the band room and the practice field without banging my horn. That day I had a Dr. Pepper bottle and put it in cap first. It got stuck tighter than a trumpet mute. It took me two days to figure out how to remove it without scratching my saxophone. The tenor sax section leader gave me a plunger at the band awards ceremony.

Out of the 6 years that I have been in music classes, have never seen kettle drums.

You should throw the didgeridoo at the percussionists instead! Save the kettle drums for more important things!

@Jan OH! I got one for ya`!

So, We were in the middle of marching season. We were doing a performance during halftime at a football game. We were on the final of 4 movements. So, obviously, we were tired.

There was a set where we all line up in a snake-like line. The moment we hit that line, we all turn around and face away from the audience, and bring our instruments up to play. The only thing is, we wait about 2 measures before we were actually suppose to play.

A Mellophone player brought her instrument up, but forgot about that 2 measure rest. The best part is how confident she was in her solo error. It was like the angles rang out, but, too early for their messages to get across.

What was funny was that instead of continuing with the show, she brought her instrument down, and walked off the field... You could see the massive amount of rage, and disappointment underneath the visor of her Shako as she tore her dinkles to shreds as she stomped off of the field.

@Vandal the brass and percussion on in cohoots with each other against us, so loud, too loud.

So here's a thing, I played violin in a Symphony Orchestra for a year, but that was a magical year for me. But the one thing is that when it came to energetic songs, the strings struggled against the brass and the percussion. The prime example that I have experienced is Holst's 'Mars: Bringer of War'. That was the first song I've ever seen with 'ffff' written in the music as a dynamic. If I had an 'turn it up to eleven' setting on my violin, that song had to use it. But regardless, there were parts where nobody could hear the strings over the horns and percussion. But we had our revenge, in the form of 'strings only' songs.

I remember another good band moment that actually happened a little while ago!

So, I'm a Bari Sax player. There are not very many moments that come up where a Bari is truly needed. Remember: the Bari is obnoxiously loud. A month ago, We were playing a very slow and expressive piece. (Elements, by Brian Balmages, movement 2). There needed to be at least 5 Bari players for me to be satisfied with that movement.

The director told the Bari section (me and one other person) that we were too loud. It made me furious. Instead of playing the piece as a forte, like the piece told me to, I went 'FFFFF'. I didn't even care about tone at that point. I went for VOLUME!

He threw his baton on the floor, breaking it in the process, and yelled "QUIT TRYING TO SPITE ME!!!". The entire band died of laughter.

Talk about critizism, but the string section clearly needed some (unicorn) horn. Or their play wasn't "corn"y enough. At least Wolf brought some coloration into the whole "fiddling" ^^...

@Razmoudah ah yes, and they say the truth will set you free. Glad i could finally get that awkward situation out there in the most anonymous way. Almost reminds me of a nice physical fitness story from middle school...but that's a little off topic for this musical discussion.
