I've been told this is a convention survival tactic: Take one (1) frozen convenience store pizza, and top it with whatever snacks (preferably meat or protein, but not always) you can find from said convenience store. Heat in-store in their microwave, and enjoy 10,000% of your daily requirement of sodium in one meal XD

One of my favorite summer treats, sold at the state fair, is salt potatoes. Nutritional information states one serving has 2,000% of the RDA of sodium. I'd have 5 or 6 servings in a day.

Paying for it now, though.

A convention survival tactic? I dunno... I've been to a lot of cons, and never heard of this before. And given the prices that convenience stores charge for things, seems like it'd be cheaper to ring up Dominos or Pizza Hut and have a real pizza delivered...

On the other hand, I suppose it beats the more usual "survival tactic" of trying to live on the free snacks provided by the Con Suite for the whole weekend. By the third day, it's pretty much a given that paramedics and an ambulance are going to be involved when at least one con-goer keels over from eating nothing but chips, soda, and jellybeans for 72 hours straight...

Depending on the base pizza, I'd try it. Pizza sauce makes me sick, a certain Pizza chain (which I won't name except if Jan asks me) makes me re-inact the vomit scene from the Exorcist...

Laughed out loud when I saw the nap boxes still following them around. Like pets. Con Food? In my suitcase: small cans of fruit, favorite snack crackers, peanut butter, packets of jelly, a study loaf of bread (OK getting high grain is a bit chewy but it doesn't get squished by a single t-shirt laying on it) and instant coffee in case the place I get does not have complementary coffee. Cooler has sodas and fruit juices. And on my map: Locations of sandwich places and at least one semi-cheap restaurant to eat at once to break the monotony.

Ever since had homemade pizza, including homemade dough, no longer fan of store-bought and restaurant pizzas.

Now I wonder, is pizza a flavour when you can put just about anything on it? (Probably yes because there's a traditional set of spices going with it in Italy ....) Also "Heat in-store in their microwave", what convenience stores have public microwave ovens? And how do you manage to get the dough crunchy in that? So many questions.

Been down that road once or twice......you got the money, frozen samich + this n that = full belly.

No money? Literally one cheapest anything, and all the complimentary toppings possible.....not as tasty, still just as filling.

@Unci Where I am, you can find gas/petrol stations and 24 hour stores with public use microwaves fairly easily. As well as public use coffee machines and soda dispensers.

One advantage I found early on for volunteering at the small local cons is that there was often a staff/volunteer/guest break room in addition to the con suite where there are a few crockpots that would be loaded with inexpensive but filling things like chili, spaghetti sauce and pasta, and the like. Although the last few times I went to one of the local cons they had those in the regular con suite as well.

Back when the local convention hotel rooms commonly included a microwave and mini-fridge I'd do up a big pot of ground-stuff-and-tomato-sauce, freeze small batches, and take those and a couple packs of tortillas and shredded cheese. I can say that having 'real food' available to share was one way to suddenly be everyone's friend.

One other trick to remember is that if there's a convention in town, the hot dogs in the roller grill will probably be fresh. Load two of those puppies (they often have a special!) with some kraut, nacho cheese, and relish, and a dab of mustard, and you're eating pretty well! Now, that's the cheap option. If you've got the cash and want to be fancy, you get a pack of salami (some places have them, some don't) and tuck some slices in there next to the dog. Add some chili too - even if they don't have dispensers, they may have canned chili. Which brings us to the canned foods - most convenience marts will have a limited selection of canned foods. You can assemble some surprisingly complex meals. Just remember folks: 6 - 2 - 1. Six hours of sleep. Two real meals (not just a handful of snacks from the hospitality suite) and one shower. MINIMUM. Anything less and you're gonna have a bad time. Also, hydrate constantly. You burn a LOT more energy at a convention than you think you do
