Another thing about "sneaker net", your data/message can't be intercepted by unwanted third parties and you can be sure the recipient received that message/data. However, they may still not read the said message or look at the data.

Reminds me of something that happened to me a few years ago at work. I answered my phone to find a very frantic Senior Manager asking me in a raised voice "Why hasn't [the client] received the proof samples for the mailing yet?" I had no idea what she was talking about, but at that exact instant an E-mail from the same client appeared in my inbox asking for the proofs.

The Senior Manager had called me so fast that the client's E-mail hadn't yet appeared on my screen.

I explained to the SM "The client has already approved the proofs." The client was having a senior's moment and had completely forgotten they'd already given approval. Astonished, the SM asked "Have they?" I replied "Yes, last week. Hold on, I'll send you the E-mail." And that was that; I didn't even need to reply to the client; the Senior Manager sent the reply and attached the client's own approval message.

Iv allways wondered how if this could be done or not.....whenever your email has to go across the state then bounces back, but your co worker is literally right across the room....

Yep. This is why Amazon has the Snowball. A nice solid chunk of hard drives in a protective case. Cheaper and faster and more secure to ship than downloading a petabyte of date...

@Adam, This can certainly be done, provided a few conditions are met. 1, that the main mail server is either in another building or another city. (Happened to me, the server was in Boston and where I worked was about 15 miles away. 2, not the greatest broadband service between the two locations. (Who the hell decided to string exposed wires on exposed poles in New England?) 3, the managers/office chatterbox can't be within viewing distance of the attempt. (Unless you have some serious Solid Snake sneaking skills.) LLNV & LLPT

Reminds me of Outlook and GMail on occasion.... Also receiving text messages on occasion with my Mobile Phone provider.

I mean, I HAVE walked back to my desk in the next room from the photocopier/scanner before it email’s the doc I scanned…

…I need to remember to keep a phone cable at my desk, it’s faster to transfer photos rather that email…

People really do need to learn that email's not instant. I have people at work CONSTANTLY ask me "did you get it" 2 seconds after they hit the send button. Even if I didn't work in a building with terrible network reception where a quarter of the people trying to send me file have it get stuck in their outbox, NO it takes more than a second to traverse the internet!

I've been known to voicemail someone to tell them that I've sent an important email . . . in one case it took over an hour to reach an adjacent building. (Special conditions - security was increased and they contained large attachments.)

@FreeFlier: I carry an ironkey drive for that reason, if I have to move sensitive documents. It’s the version that formats itself if you enter the wrong password 10 times. (You can get a version that’s compliant with regs for moving secret/top secret info, that one self-destructs the encryption chip if you enter the wrong password 10 times.)

this reminds me of an old story, i think it was on "the daily WTF": a company had an inter-office mail SO slow, it was faster to send things by Fed-X, even though that meant shipping them to another STATE, and back to the SAME building!
