It was used to connect a scanner to the PC. Otherwise, I'd have to use the dreadfully slow parallel port.

Which was great, till you upgraded to the next version of Windows and couldn't get new drivers for the scanner... Been there many times - throw it on the Junk Pile and get a new one. Same for printers and other peripherals...

I can beat Wolf on this one; as I have a fully working KayPro 4 and a AT&T 6300plus.

Anyone remember the KayPro's CP/M operating system and the 6300's 236 processor?

Heck, I even have a Atari 400 with the Basic cartridge and tape drive.

Heck yeah, without a dusty C64 or decrepit Apple IIe Wolf's geek cred is in question.

Got a C64 (still works) and a disk drive (dead), and to complete the set, one of the first VIC-20s made. Whoo-hoo, there's geekness, like, dripping off my tail. :- )

@Fred Brown, @LionkingCMSL Et. Al: You're going to make me haul in my pile of TI-99/4A stuff and fire it up, aren't you? Peripheral Expansion Box and P-Code card and the whole shebang.

I used the "TI 99/4A Impact Printer" for many years after for 1-up tractor mailing labels. (Shh!! It's really an Epson MX-80 with both Parallel and Serial, don't tell anyone.)

And the Fully Loaded PC-XT only needed a new MFM hard drive when I put it up on blocks...

I happen to have three "electronics junk bins" - most of the stuff is actual (useable) bare components, but some of it is stuff I've just taken apart to see how it works.

Ye gads, I remember when SCSI was still faster than ATA. The problem was SCSI was more expensive, and if you had more than one in the chain, you needed to have a terminator at the other end. Most of the time internal drives handled it with a jumper setting and external drives handled it with a switch, but if you didn't have those, you had to go out and buy a terminator block.

Still when I got a G4 dual processor (again, fastest AT THE TIME) I got it with a SCSI drive.

Legacy technology comes in handy especially when you still have old media kicking around.

Don't know how it stacks up to everybody else, but I've still got my dad's RadioShack TRS(Trash)-80.
