Depending upon any present divinity in or of said carp, just refer to it as (the/a) Holy Carp. Maybe it's more of a divine mascot for some other watery being, a physical manifestation of a higher power it uses to interact with the Mortal Plane for convenience and safety of mortal followers, an avatar against non-believers/enemies, etc. In Buddhism, for example, Golden (Carp)/(Fish) is a powerful symbol, and an actual living one such as this a manifestation of those qualities (primarily good luck/fortune, which could be quite good for believers & followers ... and not so good in situations where a choice needs be made between followers and non-believers). Next decision: is there only one? Could there be a twin? Or others in the world, even if very rare? There are probably consequences for attempting to harm/eat a Holy Carp. Treat it well and you may find favor & be granted a boon.

Zat's just one of ze several tex Avery's characters and one wiz a sad fate , having been ze "hero" of only five or six cartoons before to be killed . Cause : maybe too violent , or judged annoying by watchers ?
