The Sheriff... has a change of heart? Is this some sort of reverse Stockholm syndrome? Does he even know what he's getting into?

Thanks for bearing with the next couple pages of exposition. Silver's and Kiela's trials were supposed to be together on one page, but it was just too visually cramped.

Panel 1: Move the comma from "now" to "is" and add one to "part".

Also, I think it's because the Sheriff's been dealing with them for so long that he's grown to like them, especially after what Tor did.

Maybe Tor has awakened and told the Sheriff the whole story.

Again, while they may be a pain in his tail occasionally he knows they mean no lasting harm and are just two goofballs trying to get ahead in the world, even if that means they may break a law or three.

As was pointed out earlier he knows they don't have a malicious bone in their bodies.

I'd imagine as much as he hates them, the sheriff can't stand to watch Silver and Tor punished for saving the king.

That or he wants a favour something in return.

@OmegaWolf: I agree. I mean even Silver is giving the Sheriff a bit of side eye. Not like she doesn't appreciate his help, but is wondering if he should commit to this.

To put it into D&D terms, the Sheriff is Lawful Good, and he knows that Tor and Silver are Chaotic Good (maybe with a Chaotic Neutral leaning, but the scales still tip). He knows the good in them outweighs the chaos, and in a larger sense, if given the choice and opportunity they generally try to help out and do the right thing from their perspective.

Are they going to stay out of trouble? Hell no, they're not. But it wouldn't be right for them to be imprisoned (or worse), and the Sheriff is a good enough person to know that.

Theory: the spell switched Tor and the Sheriff, so it's actually Tor here getting himself and Silver out of trouble.

I'd point out that while neither Tor nor Silver are BAD, the evidence suggests that they are magnets for chaotic mayhem... ...& previous events have shown that chaos seeks them out, without any effort on their part... ...so do you REALLY think that you would feel safer, by incarcerating a "chaos magnet" in your home?

He may not like Tor and Silver, but, he is an honest lawman and is willing to call it like it is. That having been said, he doesn't have to be happy about it.

Accept responsibility for their future actions? Is that typically the case if a lawman vouches for the accused? The Sheriff is merely testifying to the facts as he saw them, in order to promote justice. The choice to release the accused rests wholly on their Royal Highnesses, who are therefore to accept the responsibility if anyone is!

Not that this is anything I'd dare say before the Royal court! 😬
