@Schorse They don't have seat belts on. It'll be a few more centuries before those are invented. ;) @awalker1829 This is going to take a while: 1. Catapult rope catches Silver's tail... 2. Silver misses her swing... 3. Catapult's parking brake disengages and begins rolling backwards... 4. Catapult arm gets stuck, requiring manual override because WD-40 hadn't been invented yet... 5. Sudden air-drop of bananas from ducks flying overhead, leading to an incoming stampede of barbarian herds... Heck, I didn't even get to the possibility of the darn thing actually working yet :P

Pigeons land on the Catapult, weighing it down so that it doesn't work...
A Bored Hoard happens by and Tor and Silver are Crowed Surfed away before releasing the Catapult...
The knight Yonks back his sword so they have to untie the catapult, still grasping the rope as it fires...
The handle and sword separate as Silver swings and stabs Tor in the butt...
Nothing, until they climb aboard to check out what went wrong.

That knight must posses a feat to use a two handed weapon one handed without taking penalty, shame that I'll never get to ask him what it is.

@Chris "Foxx" Yost; I wouldn't say Silver was "proficient" with the sword. That would imply she was engaged in a melee and doing intentional critical damage. As it is she is just trying to cut a non-moving rope with plenty of time to focus. That should be a skill anyone who knows which end to hold and the strength to swing the sword can do.

Heck, I'm not proficient at sword fighting, but I own a sword, and if it was sharpened, it's a display piece, I could do it.

No wonder that catapult doesn't toss things very far. The arm is on the wrong side of the fulcrum. Any tension just causes it to go bap against the crossbeam and toss whatever's in the basket right in front of it.

...bet the guards designed it.

Also, I hope sir knight's shield took the most of that "Thrunch!"

Don't worry, them babies'll be back; just like most stubborn cartoon sidekicks, they'll simply teleport right back to Tor and Silver - or climb out of the catapult just before 'takeoff' (which might be a REALLY good idea for them right now, hehe ;D)

@LionkingCMSL as an experiment I tried cutting a stretched hemp rope [1/4" thick] with a very sharp axe, a rapier and a 'cut-throat' razor; none worked. A sawing action or with a wood block behind, yes but not just stretched taut.

@LionkingCMSL It isn't a matter of just trying to cut a rope mate, it's a simple matter of weight ratios! A 100-pound-soaking-wet wolfess can't wield a double-paw broadsword without upper body strength, although watching her trying to regain her balance whilst toppling over backwards with it would be funny as hell :)

I had a look at the previous page. The catapult is of the counterweight type, but the counterweight is placed in such a way that it only has a minimal way to go before it comes to rest on the ground. This explains why the rock didn't fly far. The griffon chicks are much lighter, but considering what they already have survived under Tor's "care" there's no reason to fret.

What if the catapult pulls a Wile E. Coyote and flips over once they cut the rope, effectively landing on Tor and Silver? I mean, the babies would probably fall out, but they'd be fine. Maybe start eating tor's apparently delicious tiger tail again, but they'd be fine....
